Glasses: More Than Just An Eyesight Correction Device!

Glasses may have started off just as an eyesight correction device, but today they have gone on to become a multifunctional accessory. And the reason for them being a multifunctional accessory is the various types of lenses that are now available.

Recently, I was shopping for glasses online. After spending some time over the internet, I arrived at a pair of superbly elegant square glasses. After moving ahead with the purchase, I was given options for the choice of lenses. The multiple options available left me amazed.

Based on the various functions that glasses provide, here are the different types of glasses that you must know.

Prescription Glasses

Prescription glasses are pairs that you need for the purpose of eyesight correction. The lenses of these pairs can be customised based on the individual’s needs.

A significant section of the global public wear prescription glasses these days. They are not only super effective in providing eyesight correction but also go a long way in enhancing your style.

Fake Glasses

Well, glasses are one of the most loved fashion accessories, and the hot-selling fake glasses are an indication of that.

Fake glasses are non-prescription glasses used solely for the purpose of style. Whether you require eyesight correction or not, wearing glasses for your style needs is an awesome thing to do.

The best thing about glasses is that they are good to go on all occasions. Whatever be the occasion, there are multiple options of glasses to choose from. The square frame glasses that I had bought recently were a pair of fake glasses, and I have already received a lot of compliments for these pairs.

Blue light blocking glasses

The ongoing wave of digitalisation has increased our screen time considerably. With the increase in screen time, the exposure to blue light emitted by digital screens has also increased.

The excessive exposure to blue light is a cause of concern as it might cause eye strain, and also other conditions such as dry eyes, headaches, fatigue, among others.

Putting on blue light blocking glasses is an effective way to reduce the exposure to blue light emitted by digital screens to negligible amounts, which won’t cause any harm to your eyes. These glasses use lenses with protective coatings that block blue light incident on them from striking our eyes.

Since I have a significant exposure to digital screens, I opted for the blue light lenses with the square glasses frames that I had ordered over the online medium recently.

Sunglasses

Considering the risks posed by harmful UV rays, sunglasses are a must-have. Whenever you step out in sunny conditions, you should make it a point to put a pair of sunglasses on.

The lenses of sunglasses come with UV protective coating, which blocks the UV rays incident on them from striking the eyes. The lenses that come with both UVA & UVB protective coatings are super effective in providing 100% protection from the harmful UV rays.

And how can we not mention the outstanding ability of sunglasses to help you make the perfect style statement.

Anti-glare Glasses

Glare is a condition caused by a certain component of reflected light rays. There is no need to get into the details here. What you need to understand is that glare can hinder your vision, and also cause conditions such as eye strain and headaches.

Although it can occur at any time of the day, glare is most common during activities like driving, cycling, fishing, night work, among others. To eliminate the occurrence of glare, anti-glare glasses are just what you need.

The lenses of anti-glare glasses have a thin anti-reflective coating, which serves the function of eliminating glare.

Transitions

In present times, there is a massive craze among the fashion enthusiasts for the transition lenses. But what are transition lenses in the first place?

Transition lenses are light-sensitive lenses, which change the colour of their tints according to the light incident over their surface. These lenses act both as your normal pair of glasses with clear lenses and sunglasses with tinted lenses.

Whenever you are indoors, transition lenses remain clear and once you move into sunny conditions, their lenses adopt a tinted appearance converting themselves into cool sunnies and providing you the much-needed UV protection.

Varifocals

Varifocals are advanced lenses that have been made possible by the technological advancement in the eyewear industry.

Varifocal lenses come with three visibility zones, each specified for near, far and intermediate ranges. The three visibility zones make it possible for varifocals to provide eyesight correction for nearsightedness, farsightedness, and anything in between.

It also needs to be mentioned that varifocals are an advancement of the bifocal lenses. However, there are two major differences.

Firstly, bifocals don’t have any intermediate visibility zone. This might result in abrupt transition when you switch your gaze between objects placed at different distances, which is not the case with varifocals.

Secondly, the boundaries dividing the visibility zones in varifocals are not visible to the naked eye, whereas in the case of bifocals, it is visible, thereby compromising the visual appeal of bifocal lenses.
